I want to help you win...over the chess board, at work, and in life
A recent event (Feb. 2019) where I taught chess at the tech company VerticalApps. In addition to my four school teams, I teach military families at least twice a month on Fort Belvoir and volunteer twice a week at Francis Gregory Library and the nonprofit Chess Girls DC.
The research has shown that chess provides a wide range of benefits -- from enhanced cognitive development for kids to keeping a sharp mind for seniors and everything in between, including professional benefits. I think there's something special about the iron logic and unique dynamic of chess that helps us to better grasp the essentials of life and work, too.
As US Chess Federation National Master ranked #3 in DC and professional chess instructor (see my home page for more info), I can tailor a Chess Workshop for your team. There are a broad range of benefits your team will gain from learning chess with me:
Strategic, Long-Term Planning
Structured Decision-Making
Creative Thinking
Risk Management
Threat Evaluation & Response
Quick & Accurate Assessment of Any Position
Teamwork (coordinating pieces effectively)
Team Building (a fun challenge with your colleagues)
Defensive Calculation (defense is half the game and often underappreciated)
Critical Self-Awareness
Counter-Attacking
Visualization (sharpening the mind's eye to see ahead)
Building calculation trees/game theory application
Tactical Prowess (forcing moves or "combos")
Navigating & SimplifyingComplexity
Sacrificing for Immaterial/Abstract Gain (one of my favorite aspects of chess)
Mental Toughness & Stamina
Patience
Adaptability & Flexibility
Cultivating Powerful Intuition; Knowing what the board demands
Effective Execution ("The hardest thing to win is a won game" -World Champion Lasker)
Heightened Self-Esteem
Beating Your Family, Friends & Colleagues at Chess!
We can do formal instruction and/or I can facilitate informal play, or even host a "simul" where I play everyone at once (see below). A mid-day workshop at the office or happy hour games at a restaurant, the possibilities are as endless as the game itself.
Interested? Send me an email or fill out the form below to inquire about a fun chess workshop. In addition to professional chess, I have a background in community development work. Integrating chess with community engagement, I like to make workshops fun, interactive, and intellectually stimulating, sharing my passion for the greatest game in the world with you and your team, regardless of chess experience level. We can tailor a session to meet your needs.
