What are your chess goals? Let's delve into your strengths and weaknesses, then come up with a concrete plan to take your game to new heights and open your mind to new possibilities...and have fun while we're at it!
My current private students range from age 4 to 82. I've taught from new beginner to expert. So basically, anything goes! I like to challenge myself and my students.
I'm located in the DC area. We can meet at a coffee shop, library, or your place once we know each other if you're in the DC area.
(2020 Update: For now, my classes are conducted online and the format is going quite well. We use Zoom, Google, or Skype and chess.com or lichess.org. We can still do tons of instructive analysis, and we're able to get in lots of practice games - against me or other players at your level or expert/master level that we can play together. And of course we can analyze games after they're played; I encourage my students to analyze their games in between lessons for us to review. I do miss interactive in-person lessons, but fortunately my students and I have been able to maximize this format.)
I try to make my prices as reasonable as possible, and they are very affordable compared with other master lessons in other U.S. cities. I have also received some funding that has allowed me to do multiple lessons free or at very low cost based on ability-to-pay, especially during this difficult time for many economically.
Ask about events for an organization to help strengthen your team.
I also provide great deals for group lessons.
I am committed to making the benefits of chess accessible to all. Please see my pro bono page on how I am providing 100+ hours of free instruction to organizations serving those in need in the DC community each year. I also provide discounted lessons for some of my students for whom affordability is an issue.
My students Jesse and Zahir swept the DC Championship this year (April 2019), winning all of their games! They will go to Orlando to compete against all state K-8 and High School winners across the nation. Please pitch in a little bit to help them get to Orlando!
